MDA's Art Collection
Through works of art, individuals express their experiences as individuals and as part of humanity. The works displayed in the Muscular Dystrophy Association Art Collection not only showcase the creative abilities of the individual artists but give a voice to those with neuromuscular disease.

Fill the Boot for MDA
This summer, you may see fire-fighters collecting funds at local parades and events. When you see your local firefighters campaigning to raise funds for the MDA, make sure to say thank you. Let them know how the MDA has helped you and your family. And, make sure to help fill the boot!
My Buddy Book Review
My Buddy, a picture book written by Audrey Osofsky, tells the story of a boy with muscular dystrophy and companion dog, Buddy. Illustrated by Ted Rand, this book will help parents and teachers discuss important issues such as muscular dystrophy and physical disability with young children.
Canine Companions for Independence
Canine Companions for Independence, a non-profit 503(c)(3) organization , trains and places assistance dogs. Their assistance dogs are trained to provide four different categories of help, including, service, facility, companion, and hearing.
Scoliosis and Neuromuscular Disease
Scoliosis, a sideways curvature of the spine, is a common problem for individuals with neuromuscular disease. Depending on severity, scoliosis can prevent the chest from expanding fully, interfering with the ability to breath. Scoliosis can also cause pain and functional difficulties.

Tai Chi for Arthritis: 12 lessons with Dr. Paul Lam is a gentle and effective Tai Chi program. This two DVD set provides detailed teaching and practice for a Tai Chi routine developed for those with arthritis. This DVD will also be beneficial for many individuals with neuromuscular disease.
Learning through Neuromuscular Disease
Recently, I had the opportunity to speak on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Association to children walking to raise money. I found that I had much to tell these children, not just about neuromuscular disease and the MDA, but about coping and thriving despite life’s struggles.
MDA Summer Camps
Without specialized MDA camps, many children with neuromuscular disease might never have the opportunity to attend a summer camp, as most summer camps are not equipped to handle the specialized health needs and appropriate adaptations in activities for a child with neuromuscular disease.
Online College and Neuromuscular Disease
The availability of online learning courses for college students has greatly increased in the past decade. Online learning can provide easily accessible college education for students with neuromuscular disease and other types of disability.
